Agricultural Volcanic Tuff

Green Grove Soil is a natural volcanic growing medium with high porosity that enhances aeration, drainage, and balanced moisture retention, while supporting stronger roots and healthier plant vitality. It also improves the stability of growing mixes and reduces compaction and shrinkage, making it suitable for soil, greenhouses, nurseries, and soilless cultivation.

It is available in two functional grades: 0–4 mm for improving soil and growing mixes with balanced moisture retention, and 10–25 mm for high aeration, hydroponics, aquaponics, surface mulching, and specialized coarse growing mixes.

Why Green Grove?

Functional benefits built around root-zone engineering and growing-medium behavior in real applications.

Higher Root Aeration

Porous particles increase post-drainage air space and support root respiration and biological activity within the medium.

Sharper Water Balance

It neither traps water like a suffocating medium nor sheds it like dense stone; it balances free-water removal with retention of available moisture.

Longer Structural Stability

Improves structural stability in growing mixes and reduces shrinkage, settling, and compaction over time, especially in light organic media.

Root-Zone Optimization

The product’s primary value is optimizing the relationship between air, water, drainage, and structural stability around the root zone.

Suitable for Granular Systems

Its rough, porous surface supports granular media systems and aquaponics while providing suitable area for biofilms under correct operation.

Effective Top Dressing

The coarser grade performs well as a long-life top dressing, helping reduce evaporation, moderate surface temperature, and improve appearance.

How do you choose the right grade?

Grade selection is determined by application function: medium building and moisture management, or higher air and faster drainage.

0–4 mm

When the goal is medium building

The fine-to-medium grade designed for building growing mixes, improving stability, and providing moderated moisture retention.

  • When the application needs more balanced moisture than the coarse grade while still maintaining good drainage.
  • When higher mix stability and lower settling are required in light organic media.
  • When the goal is to improve a dense soil or a loose blend around the root zone.
Product Overview (0-4mm)
10–25 mm

When air and drainage are the priority

The highly aerated coarse grade designed for air, drainage, and structural stability in granular applications, coarse mixes, and top dressing.

  • When maximum root-zone air and rapid drainage are the top priority.
  • In granular beds, aquaponics, and selected vertical granular systems.
  • In long-life top dressing and coarse mixes for plants that prefer higher aeration.
Product Overview (10-25mm)
Blended Choice

When you need a balanced particle profile

In certain mineral systems sensitive to drying or in very fast-draining mixes, the fine medium can be supported with a limited portion of the coarse grade to raise aeration without pushing the mix to dry too quickly.

  • 5–15% of 10–25 mm within the finer medium in mineral systems sensitive to drying.
  • The coarse fraction can be raised to 15–30% in very fast-draining mixes or more tolerant crops.
  • Rule of thumb: add the coarse fraction only to the point that improves aeration without harming water comfort.

Application Areas

Core functional placements by cultivation system, as defined by each grade’s behavior within the medium.

Open Field & In-Ground Greenhouses

Open Field & In-Ground Greenhouses

The 0–4 mm grade is used primarily within the active root zone, while 10–25 mm can support the surface when top dressing, improved appearance, and reduced evaporation are needed.

Grow Bags & Pots Under Drip Irrigation

Grow Bags & Pots Under Drip Irrigation

The 0–4 mm grade is the base, either alone or with a limited portion of 10–25 mm when aeration needs correction within a more stable mineral medium.

Media-Based Hydroponics

Media-Based Hydroponics

Washed 10–25 mm is the preferred choice for media beds, individual containers, and selected flood-and-drain systems with proper water and leachate monitoring.

Aquaponics

Aquaponics

Washed 10–25 mm supports roots and provides surface area for biofilms, with periodic cleaning needed to prevent clogging and anaerobic zones.

Vertical Farming

Vertical Farming

A balanced blend led by 0–4 mm with an organic base in pockets, or a support-only use in channels; the shallower the pocket, the greater the need for a less coarse medium.

Landscaping

Landscaping

One of the strongest placements for both products together: 0–4 mm within planting beds to improve the medium, and 10–25 mm as a long-life top dressing that reduces evaporation and increases visual value.

0–4 mm Reading

  • A fine-to-medium grade designed for medium building and moisture moderation.
  • Suitable for growing mixes, grow bags, and soil improvement.
  • If used as a full medium, it requires tighter irrigation control and local leachate testing.
  • It is best lightly moistened before mixing when dust is present.

10–25 mm Reading

  • A highly aerated coarse grade designed for air, drainage, and structural stability.
  • Suitable for granular systems, aquaponics, and coarse blends for plants that prefer higher aeration.
  • Works as a long-life top dressing with a common operating depth of 5–7.5 cm.
  • It is recommended to wash it thoroughly for hydroponic and aquaponic systems.

Operating Controls & Reuse

One section combining the main operating controls with the economic advantage of reusing the coarse grade.

Operation Control
  • All mixing ratios should be read by volume, not by weight, because air and water management in the medium is governed by volume.
  • Wash 10–25 mm thoroughly before hydroponic and aquaponic use, and lightly moisten 0–4 mm before mixing when dust is present.
  • The coarser the medium and the shallower the container, the more frequent and shorter the irrigation cycles need to be.
  • Monitor pH, EC, and leachate regularly, especially with water high in bicarbonates or salinity.
Reuse
  • The 10–25 mm grade can be reused after removing roots and attached residues.
  • It should be washed thoroughly again and sanitized when needed between cycles or in recirculating systems.
  • Medium cleanliness and particle distribution should be checked before restarting in a new project.
  • This feature provides clear economic value in commercial projects and long-service media beds.

Common Technical Questions

Concise answers to the most important technical questions that shape the buying decision.

Is Green Grove Soil a complete fertilizer or a growing medium?

Professionally, it should be read as a highly porous volcanic mineral growing medium engineered for root-zone management, not as a standalone substitute for a fertilization program.

When should I choose 0–4 mm?

When the priority is building the mix, improving structural stability, and moderating moisture inside the growing medium, soil, or grow bags.

When should I choose 10–25 mm?

When the priority is root-zone air, fast drainage, granular systems, or long-life top dressing.

Is it suitable for hydroponic systems?

The 10–25 mm grade suits media-based hydroponics and aquaponics after thorough washing. In NFT and DWC, use is limited to supporting the seedling only, not filling the channel or bed.

Does it require washing or conditioning?

The 10–25 mm grade should be washed thoroughly for hydroponic and aquaponic systems, while 0–4 mm is best lightly moistened before mixing when dust is present.

Is a bottom layer alone enough to improve drainage?

No. True drainage improvement comes from the composition of the entire medium profile. A basal layer is used only to protect drainage holes or add stability when needed.

Can it be reused?

It can be reused after sorting, cleaning, and reconditioning, while verifying medium cleanliness, operating suitability, and pH/EC readings before returning it to service.

Does it replace the fertilization program?

No. Plant nutrition remains tied to the fertilization program and irrigation-water quality, while the role of the product is engineering the root zone.
